Canoeing in the Thayatal
An experience for people who appreciate extraordinary experiences. You will sail by canoe through the magic Thayatal valley and experience nature at its most beautiful.
The river Thaya can be travelled on by canoe in case of favourable water conditions and in accordance with local nature protection and environmental laws. Several chutes and dams that will be crossed on the way which will turn this excursion into an unforgettable experience.
The following routes are at your disposal:

Follow the river downstream from Raabs towards Kollmitz

This section provides for an unforgettable nature experience. The ruin of Kollmitz can be seen and visited. Please use the well-marked paths along the way.
The optimum conditions range between the water levels of 120 cm and 180 cm as measured in Raabs.

Weikertschlag - Raabs (about 10 km)

The most beautiful section of the Moravian Thaya may only be travelled on in case of high water levels and by well-trained canoeists. Furthermore, we ask you to take notice of the fact that this section is closed for canoe tours during the time of incubation of local animals (March 1 – May 31).
Minimum water level in Raabs: 150 cm.

Karlstein - Raabs (about 10 km)

Marvellous section with several bottlenecks. The Schrattental valley offers a magic nature experience.
Minimum water level in Raabs: 151 cm during the spawning season (March 1-June 30).
Minimum water level in Raabs: 150 cm off the spawning season.


Canoeing can be practised between 10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. (summer time: 6.00 p.m.) in case of sufficient water level.
